Is the CONCACAF Gold Cup organized by FIFA?
I’m writing a dissertation about football performance, and how economic aspects of a country influences the performance.
In that regards I am interested to investigate if there has been any changes over time regarding this matter. The way I’m planning to investigate this is to calculate the FIFA ranking for selected counties from 1985 till present using the formula described on the FIFA home page
A problem now is that certain American countries (Columbia, Mexico and USA) are doing TOO well, so I suspect they have been given more points than what they are due…
My question is:
Is the CONCACAF Gold Cup a Continental final competition or a mini tournament, i. e. a friendly (3 or 1 point in FIFA ranking)?
The Gold Cup is organised by CONCACAF but abides and adheres to the rules of teh governing body of FIFA. It is a competition for countries in the CONCACAF region – just like the EURO competition and African Nations Cup – but sometimes countries outside CONCACAF are invited to play eg. Colombia.
